Windy Wellington…….. Weta included.

Chocolate was the order of the day. A small chocolate factory just up the coast was the first stop. The service was impeccable – lol. Not happy Jan!

A tiki tour around the surrounding hills bought us to a souvenir shop. Paul was delayed slightly as he found an interesting alternative route. Wellington has lots of interesting narrow and windy roads. Shopping was great with lots of family presents bought here.

Ammon was lucky enough to meet two elderly ladies outside the shop who pointed us to the Weta Cave. Boring we all thought by the ages of the ladies but how wrong were we. The Weta Cave is the most awesome place. We were ushered in the door and shown a dvd. The theratre was ours alone and what a dvd. It was the explaination of the formation of the weta cave.  The Weta Cave is the workshop for the props and special effects for movies such as Narnia series, Avatar and Lords of the Rings to name a few. After the DVD we saw original props from the movies and were really please two little old ladies passed on their knowledge.

Off to the city we went and the swimmers were given free time to shop and look around. It was here that people witnessed two very confused people. While trying to access our lunch we agree door singage is very important. Thank fully the assistance of a Kiwi was welcomed.

Finally to round off a great day after much prompting from the kids we crossed the road and bought Fush n Chups for dinner.

A really good week is almost at the end……… and the planning for next year might have just begun!  Would anyone like to buy a raffle ticket?

Teena Terrific!

Even thought the fatigue of the meet was catching up with the swimmers Teena still shone through to claim the 6th medal of the meet to claim bronze in the 200m back.   The 7th medal of the meet should have been won by Ammon however due to the two visitors to a final rule Ammon had to watch the race from the side lines as his heat swim time would have placed him third behind those two Queenslanders.

Outstanding performances again from Phillip who showed that PB’s are just waiting to be smashed by winning the tie breaker.

Peter had another sensational day qualifying for his second final.

Ella made the 50m Free final which was her third final of the meet with her highest placing 8th in the 50m Free tonight.

Every swimmer finished the meet off with a well earned medley relay final. They did a great job in qualifying for the relay finals even though  they were beaten convincingly in the end. As one of our swimmers commented all those swimmers had Olympic Rings tattooed on them.

A special thank you goes to Jan who has been very helpful in providing effective communication with the locals.

SPECIAL NOTE:

Wide Bay Swimming once again thanks Swimming New Zealand for allowing us the opportunity for our team to swim at the meet.

I can’t imagine a more exciting race than the heat swim for Phillip and Peter this morning. Little did you know leading into the race the boys were competing for an aweseome prize…..

Both boys did massive PB’s leading into the event. The boys were racing to earn the covereted prize of the 25th Swimmer to make a final. That’s huge when we only have seven swimmers on the team.  Both boys lined up. Phillip in lane 7 and Peter in lane 2.

All eyes were on the race…..  50m breast……… the boys touched together and all eyes focused on the scoreboard.  WHAT … NO… It couldn’t be. Peter’s time was 32.16, Phillip’s time was 32.16   It was a  TIE.  Oh no what now?…….  let’s all watch the finals tonight. The winner takes all. Peter in the 14yrs and Phillip in the 16 years.   Make sure you’re watching!
